For those who were not aware of it, two days ago climate change Denier Anthony Watts filed a complaint causing the removal of from youtube of Peter Sinclair’s excellent video Whats up with Anthony Watts?. You can follow the developments from here if you wish.
The video was reposted and an informal campaign to spread the word took off. The grassroots campaign to keep Peter Sinclair’s video public has had considerable success. As you can see, the search I just did yielded 29,000 hit. Of course not all of them are related to this story, but from what I could tell a great many of them were.
Kudos to Kevin Grandia and DeSmogBlog for taking a lead role in making that happen, and to everyone who blogged, Stumbled, Dugg, Tweeted, and spread the word however they could; you’re the ones who have really made it happen.
However, the reason I was actually doing this search was to find out what Wingnuttia was saying about it. I was really curious to hear how Watts himself was spinning it, or how Wormtail over Climate Despot was reporting on it.
What outrage? what invectives? what accustations of slander?
.
.
Not a thing
All through the Denienialosphere not a creature is stirring
Except for the single posting from père Pielke which Adam discusses in Roger Pielke Sr speaks on Climate Crock: Laugh or cry? I was not able to find any mention of the video at all, much less the youtube takedown.
The Deniers are never one to miss a pretext to cry about being wronged, censored and oppressed. Here was a chance to rally the peasants with torchs and pitch forks to protest the vile treatment of Watts, and yet …
nothing.
Is it that they are so locked into playing the victim that they don’t want the Faithful to know about censoring others?
Or are they afraid to mention the series at all lest some of the mob see it and actually learn something?
But that doesn’t make sense as many already knew about it, and as is the norm simply spewed venom and drivel without learning a thing.
Curiouser and curiouser.
I note also that the usual suspects have been absent from my own comment threads these last two days. How has it been at other sites covering the story? I haven’t noticed much troll activity on them at all.
So here is homework for everyone. The google banner image (above) is linked to letmegooglethatforyou. Click it and:
- go to a blog you’ve never heard of,
- check the comment thread to see what the trolls are saying,
- leave a comment thanking the blog for covering the story,
- look around a bit, maybe it’s a blog you’d like 😉
In terms of total annual rainfall, most of the United States became “wetter” over the 20th century. Most of this increase, however, is being expressed in “extreme” rainfall events, which are now more frequent and even more extreme than they were in the 1950s. Earth Gauge

Denier “Challenge” aka Deathwatch Update: Day 275 … still no evidence.

I’ce noticed the suspicious lack of denailist activity on this one too. Perhaps because it is such an obvious hypocritical action by Watts and now is a PR disaster for him.
It seems there is an effort to do a Soviet-style edit of history to remove the incident. Here is the Wikipedia page with the controvosy on:

And now it’s been edited out:

interesting.

Happy to report that my little effort of spreading the word has remained on the front page (if you have ‘environment’ selected) of reddit for the past ~20 hours – http://www.reddit.com/r/environment/comments/95oiv/the_video_that_global_warming_denier_anthony/ [1]
I also left a feisty comment over at WattsUpIdiots – of course it didn’t get past moderation, but hopefully Mr Melonhead read it first. The cognitive dissonance inside his cranium must be *deafening* right now. Wonderful. [2]
