Monbiot: Climate change deniers claim they’re censored. What hypocrites
BPSDBOne of the allegations made repeatedly by climate change deniers is that they are being censored. There’s just one problem with this claim: they have yet to produce a single valid example.
Monbiot’s latest column is worth spreading far and wide for two reasons:
- to keep the Watts controversy more broadly known, and hence get more people to become aware of the entire “Climate Denial Crock of the Week” series.
- Monbiot uses this incident as a framing for shooting down yet another Denier meme, the fictional censorship of Deniers, while talking about the real suppression of climate science.
“On the other hand, there are hundreds of examples of direct attempts to censor climate scientists.”

Well, your evidence is in the Climategate emails, particularly when the CRU scientists talk about redefining peer review and keeping papers out of journals.
And then there’s William Connolley, who edited thousands of Wikipedia articles about AGW. He erased the MWP and LIA.
Mr Stoat would be most surprised to hear that he has the power to erase the MWP and LIA. Just how did he do this?

And of course, no papers were actually kept out of journals (although some of the discussed papers were so flawed that they shouldn’t have been published).
Sounds like censorship to me.
Censorship? I’d say it sounds like an inordinately large focus on facts, rather than fiction.
Let’s be happy Wikipedia censors incorrect information. We want our encyclopedias to contain factual information, and not the delusions of ‘skeptics’ who know little about the actual science, but have a major case of Dunning-Kruger.
But I guess Frank also supports the cries of censorship by creationists (who aren’t even allowed to alter the age of the earth, which everyone knows is a big conspiracy by scientists to suppress religion), and by the HIV/AIDS deniers.
