BPSDBGrab the popcorn, it’s another videos blog
I am so glad to see that Sinclair’s Climate Denial Crock of the Week series has taken on the climate change Denier attempt to co-opt the poor and marginalized, particularly from the Developing World. I have blogged on this before and most certainly will again as it has to be the most callous of all of the self-serving Denier lies they use to justify their dishonesty.
For some reason the “The Medieval Warming Crock” disappeared for a while, but now has reappeared (slightly edited perhaps?). Regardless, here it is again with the correct location.
I am very impressed with the trailer being put out by Climate Refugees about an upcoming film which promises to be quite powerful. I just wish that i) I could embed it rather than simply give you a link
and ii) that there was some indication of when we can expect the film to be released.
From Greenpeace UK we get this moving vblog by a Chinese national on a Greenpeace arctic expedition.
I found the personal reflections on climate and China set against the stunning landscapes and good musical score to be very powerful.

REClimate is hosting a video contest for people to produce videos for presentation at the Copenhagen Conference, with this teaser as perhaps one example of what might be done.
The winning film will receive a prize of 2000€ and the finalists will be screened at the United Nations Climate Summit in Copenhagen in December 2009.
I’d like to end on a somewhat lighter, but still very serious note, with “Who will save us from Climate Change?” from A-Z Climate Change (although I learned of it from OneClimate.net). Apparently this is the introductory video for a series of 26, one for each letter of the alphabet (damn, what are those books called again?), to be released before Copenhagen.
The ouvre is poetry; more ‘open mike’ than Shakespearean sonnet when all is said and donne, but nonetheless rhymster Danny makes a surprising number good comments about the world of climate politics in very little time.
UPDATE: I have encountered a longer version of the same poem (below), but will leave the original here as well and invite you to share the one that most suits your purpose.

M is for Magic Bullet, some measured metre on big business, climate change denial and disinformation, and geoengineering. Monbiot get’s an interesting compliment which I hope he appreciates 😉 .

O for outsource an Ode on the environmental and social impacts and of ostentatious consumerism and waste.

Fun and educational, nice. To catch the rest you’ll have to follow A-Z Climate Change as they are released. Perhaps anonymouse Horatio Algeranon will whey in with some choice curds of wisdom about cheesy rinds and rhymes for climate parodist Danny Chivers …
This warming trend has been particularly pronounced during the pre-monsoon month of May, which is now on average 4.9 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than it was in the late 1970’s. The Indian Ocean warmed to a much lesser extent during this period, enhancing the temperature gradient between the ocean and the land. Earth Gauge

Self promotion here (I work at Greenpeace) but a new project that just launched does just this: record the voices of people impacted by climate change, everywhere, rich, poor or middle class.

The “usual” lies of the deniers are annoying enough but I feel real anger when these right-wing (insert favourite word for worst possible human being) claim that AGW is a leftist plot to kill the poor, or at least to prevent them from climbing out of poverty.
Where have these creatures been all this time? Why haven’t they been helping the world’s poor for the last 10, 20, or 50 years? Why have they made every effort throughout history to maximise the wealth of those who already have most of it while opposing basic human rights? Why have they opposed every effort to prevent industry polluting the environment and poisoning (mostly poor) people? Why have they opposed every improvement in working conditions to protect profits at the cost of workers’ health? Where are all the power stations they could have built for the world’s most disadvantaged when CO2 wasn’t an issue? Where are all the “clean” power stations they could be building now?
