BPSDB Yes, Christmas is over, so it’s that time again.
Time for the Denialosphere to once more be shocked and amazed that it snows in winter. So like 3 year olds they are; naturally they have seen snow and cold before, but they just don’t remember.
Both Potholer54 and Greenman3610 have new videos to explain how science said all along that we would still get snow and cold in winter, and why it can be even colder than in the past in some places.
BP oil spills and an end to snow
Potholer54’s video also takes on the ‘scientists claim oil spill disrupts Gulf stream’ claim, and the ‘they changed it from global warming to climate change’ nonsense (see also here).
Aside: For thos who care to know, Potholer54 has dropped the anonymity.
Global Warming: Winter Weirding
Added to Climate Denial Crock of the Week
Greenman3610 focuses on climate change driven changes in the Northern Hemisphere air flows that result in some areas experiencing unusual cold in a warming world.
Notwithstanding climate change Denier claims to the contrary, the science predicted this all along. As usual however, knowing that would require actually knowing something about climate science, something none of the so-called skeptics ever seem to do.
Déjà vu all over again
And as usual the pre-school crowd who have never looked at climate science, nor recall that it gets cold and snows in winter, includes Anthony Watts who is shocked and amazed that there has been snow in 49 out of 50 states … just like last year.
Apparently they have forgotten that too. Perhaps they are blanking it out unconsciously because of how savagely The Daily Show and The Colbert Report mocked them for being such total morons.
Even comedians can easily find credible information that explains it in common language that anyone can understand

- Does cold weather disprove global warming?

an ability that the self-styled climate “authorities” of the Denialosphere obviously lack.
I suppose one could understand that they are easily confused if they rely on Fox News for their “science.” In reporting on last years “Snowmageddon” Fox ran this banner:
Funny thing is though, above that banner they had physicist Michio Kaku and their own Domenica Davis explaining that the scientific community wasn’t baffled at all, that this was exactly what the science predicted and hence expected.
Hint to Deniers: it’s not enough to just look at the pictures, you have to listen to what they are saying too.
Aside, in the top banner we have the lie that science is baffled by the snow in large font, the story below it in smaller font reporting “No cover up, no missing records” is not actually about CRUHack … you didn’t seriously think they would mention actual facts about climate change or climate science in a Fox banner feed, did you?
Grist reposts “Amidst a giant snowstorm, 2010 declared hottest year ever” from The Climate Post.Oddly, Mims seems to be taking the NOAA to task with “the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s timing couldn’t be worse: with snow in every state but Florida (yes, even Hawaii), the agency just announced 2010 tied with 2005 as the warmest year for global temperature.”, as if the NOAA were some kind of Music Corp that just blew a major album release.
However, i) the NOAA is a scientific organization and will release the data as soon as it is available, ii) that is a very parochial view; SPS (Sarah Palin Syndrome) notwithstanding, there is more to the world than the United States.
Granted the timing is unfortunate in that clearly a large proportion of the US population tends to view reality as consisting of no more than the past 24 hrs and a place that extends no further than the line of vision (SPS). However, there has to be a better answer than waiting until the weather is right.
Obvious culprits might include a media that is infotainment at best, and too often just out and out fiction, or an educational system that does not teach basic thinking skills, or a culture that thinks belligerent ignorance is a virtue, but the NOAA for not timing it’s data release better???
Anyway, there it is again. We live in hope that someday Deniers will grow up enough to remember what snow is, and when it comes and why, or find some other way realize that they are just repeating the same silly claims year after year … there must be some way.
Hint to Deniers: maybe get a tattoo or something so that next year you will remember

Excellent video, potholer54 is great, very cutting comments on journalism or at least the editors.
