George F. Will goes platinum

BPSDB George Will has gone Platinum with over 100 articles exposing the lies and errors in his recent climate columns.

Why so much excitement over the Will column? The net is awash with this type of idiocy and even Will himself has done this before.

I think the issue is not that Will tries to pass off climate change Denier nonsense as fact. It’s that the attempt to mislead is so juvenile and transparent that it boggles the mind and insults the reader. People do not necessarily expect George Will to tell the truth, but to attempt to mislead them while insulting their intelligence is unforgivable.

Twits and ASS at the Daily Dreck

BPSDB I refer of course to Anti-Science Syndrome (ASS) as described at Climate Progress, and Michael Asher at Daily Tech has it bad.

Barely a week after Deltoid noted that the Arctic ice situation was so bad that no climate change Denier would be so stupid as to try and claim things were OK, Asher published “Sea Ice Ends Year at Same Level as 1979”

Now Asher’s piece is so transparently false that I didn’t consider it worth debunking, but just as Lambert underestimated the Denier’s guile, I underestimated their fans gullibility. Sure enough this thing has been popping up around the net as if it were believable.

Ambler Huffs and Puffs, but really he just blows

BPSDBOn Saturday The Huffington Post inexplicably published a climate change Denier screed “Mr. Gore: Apology Accepted” by Harold Amber. The piece itself is a very juvenile collection of some of the standard Denier fables, easily exposed as false and of no great interest.

As such I will debunk it last and first ask the more interesting question, “why?”

Legitimate challenges to aspects of climate science appear in publications like New Scientist all of the time, as they should. There is no reason The Huffington Post should not do so as well. But make no mistake, this is not a “skeptical” article (as you will see).

Ambler’s piece is so lame it is worthy of NewsBlusters or The Examiner, particularly as it affects the same tone of self-righteous arrogance as only the truly ignorant can manage. It is pure Denierism unsullied by any stain of accuracy or logic.

‘gas 2.0’ announced “America’s Love Affair With Cars is Ending” which is a short description of a new report out of the Brookings Institute “The Road…Less Traveled: An Analysis of Vehicle Miles Traveled Trends in the U.S.”

According to ‘gas 2.0’ the report states that “the US is experiencing its longest and quickest decline in the amount of driving since World War Two — a decline which the report’s authors claim marks a permanent shift away from the automobile and towards other forms of transportation.”

I confess I skipped to the conclusions and that does indeed seem to be what it is saying. Let’s hope so.

New and improved old memes

2008 will probably be 10th Hottest year since 1880. Of course that is not how the Guardian reported it, they said “2008 will be coolest year of the decade“, but in this case those are the same thing.

Already the Deniers are spreading the “coolest of the decade” (ie ‘Climate change has ended‘) meme, a classic example of how the Deniers want you to look at the data, but not too closely.
